About Navimag

As a result of the depriving of provitions of the southern chilean zones, due to the bodering obstructions between Chile and Argentina, in 1979 NISA applied to start a regular cargo transportation with a Ferry service among Puerto Montt, Puerto Natales, Punta Arenas. This application was finally awarded and Naviera Magallanes S.A., ( NAVIMAG) was created on November 30 th, 1979, to start this trading with the Ferry Evangelistas. Later, in 1980, the Ro.RO Dúngenes was incorporated to the fleet.

From 1985 on, and due to the increasing of tourism on the zone, Navimag started the trips to Laguna San Rafael, on the Ro.Ro Evangelistas. Also, from that year on, tourist passenger transportation on the route to Puerto Natales were incorporated. For this, Navimag was obliged to modify the cargo vessels, fitting them for the passenger transportation.

From that time on, Navimag S.A. has operated some vessels, since the legendary Evangelistas and Dungenes, first two vessels that the firm had. Recently we added the Ro.Ro. Tierra del Fuego, Ro.Ro Amadeo, RoRo Pto. Edén and Ro.Ro Magallanes.

During all these years, Navimag S.A. has secured its leadership both on the rolling cargo and passenger transportation among the X, XI and XII regions. Up to now, the company moves more than 30.000 tourist per year, becoming a key company for southern regions of Chile.

Navimag S.A. as well as all its ships, are certified under the International Safety Management Code (ISM), related to the provisions of SOLAS for the protection of human life at sea, and for the quality assurance procedures of ISO 9001.2000.

Auditing and certification of both systems was carried out by ABS Quality Evaluations, a member of the International American Bureau of Shipping group.
The Company's Board of Directors is especially sensitive to ecological issues and is committed to a policy of protecting the natural environment. All the necessary measures are taken to ensure the operation of the Group's vessels is environmentally friendly and complies with enviromental regulations.

Our vessels guarantee that they conform to the high International Convention on Marine Pollution (MARPOL), as established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
