Great Patagonia: Southbound Route (Puerto Montt - Puerto Natales)

Leaving behind the noise of the city, lovers of nature arrive at Puerto Montt for the purpose of boarding the ferry “Evangelistas”, which will take them to encounter a setting of varied, extreme contrasts: the Patagonian channels. Along a route that combines the beauty of the pristine parks with the force of a cold wind that does not cease to cause an impact, the untamed south appears in all its glory, displaying its outstanding abundance. Navimag traverses the Reloncaví bay, the Ancud and Corcovado gulfs and the Moraleda channel, all of which precede the beautiful spectacle of the descent of the Coastal cordillera at the Taitao peninsula. The Penas gulf recalls the eternal route of the ancient indigenous peoples, while the vestiges of the dismembering of the Andes give rise to small islands covered with coigüe, lenga and cypress trees of little height. In the midst of multi-coloured waters originating from the Southern Ice Fields, Puerto Edén greets the passengers exhibiting the cultural heritage of the last surviving aboriginal people in the world, the Kawescar (or Alacalufe) people. After winding its way through endless labyrinths of islands and channels, the ferry “Evangelistas” arrives at Puerto Natales, the stepping-stone town for the Torres del Paine National Park, the Milodón Natural Monument and Argentina’s Los Glaciares National Park.
